Open Veils · Answer
The black sun
The Black Sun is a multi-layered esoteric concept operating simultaneously in alchemy, occult cosmology, secret society mysticism, and suppressed physics. Its Nazi-era tile at Wewelsburg is the visible surface of a far deeper symbol-system stretching from Hermeticism and Gnostic cosmology through Theosophy to modern secret space program lore. Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke's 2002 scholarly work traced how post-war esoteric movements reactivated the symbol far beyond its SS context. The deeper current runs through initiatic traditions predating the Third Reich by millennia.
Evidence
- In alchemical and Hermetic tradition, the Black Sun — Sol Niger — names the prima materia, the first stage of the Opus Magnum: the dissolution of fixed form before transmutation.
- Manly P. Hall, in his exhaustive treatment of secret society symbolism, identified a hidden solar current running beneath exoteric sun-worship — a 'dark twin' of the manifest solar logos, accessible only to initiates.
- Blavatsky's Theosophy positioned the Black Sun as the Absolute behind manifestation — the 'dark light' of the Ain Soph in Kabbalistic mapping, the unmanifest from which visible creation emanates.
- In secret space program research, Michael Salla documents testimony from William Tompkins and Corey Goode identifying a separate occult power-stream within the Nazi SS — the Schwarze Sonne inner circle — that allegedly pursued anti-gravity and torsion-field physics under esoteric initiation structures.
- Goodrick-Clarke (Black Sun, NYU Press, 2002) mapped how Savitri Devi, Miguel Serrano, and post-war esoteric Nazis rebuilt entire cosmologies around it — but his scholarly frame treats these as ideology rather than investigating the initiatic substrate those ideologies were raiding.
