Open Veils · Answer
Where is Atlantis?
The question of Atlantis' location fractures into at least six serious candidate zones, none of which the institutional consensus will entertain. Graham Hancock, Randall Carlson, Robert Schoch, and Charles Hapgood each converge — from different methodologies — on a pre-12,800 BCE cataclysm that erased a high civilization. The location debate is inseparable from the dating debate: find the right epoch, and the geography follows.
Evidence
- The leading alternative candidates, with their primary researchers:
- Antarctica — Graham Hancock in Fingerprints of the Gods and America Before builds on Charles Hapgood's pole-shift hypothesis: the continent now under ice sat at temperate latitudes before ~10,500 BCE.
- The Richat Structure, Mauritania — Researcher Jimmy Corsetti (Bright Insight) and geologist George Howard have noted the concentric ring formation's near-perfect match to Plato's dimensional description of Atlantis' city plan.
- Sunken Atlantic shelf / Azores plateau — Ignatius Donnelly's original 1882 thesis in Atlantis: The Antediluvian World placed it on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
- Doñana marshes, Spain (near Cádiz) — Geologist Rainer Kühne and a Spanish-led research team identified sonar anomalies in Doñana National Park consistent with Plato's concentric-ring city.
